Your Beauty Red Carpet Dream

How do doctors gauge which celebrity look or beauty trend is suitable for you to achieve your Beauty Red Carpet Dream?

Over the years, our perception of beauty has evolved and we know how to get what we want. This perception is arguably mostly influenced by what’s portrayed in the media. There’s nothing wrong in wanting to achieve your Beauty Red Carpet Dream and look like your favourite movie star or celebrity but we should not lose grip on the fact that what’s really important is to opt for something that’s suitable for you.

Facial symmetry is probably high on the list of beauty must-have. After all, it’s been said that a symmetrical appearance tends to be more attractive and the golden ratio is often used as a guide. But is it practical at all? “While we should strive to achieve balance, complete symmetry is not needed for beauty nor is it desirable. Direct visualisation is the best way to assess for symmetry. The golden ratio is good in theory but quite impractical in reality,” says Dr. Terence Tan, Director with Halley Medical Aesthetics. He explains that doctors look out for volume imbalances in either side of the face to guide their treatment for best effect. “If the doctor cannot tell the difference on visual inspection, the casual observer would not be able to notice either. Doing too much to chase for symmetry will invariably result in excessive treatment and sometimes complications,” he adds.

Beauty Red Carpet Dream: Pucker up for some lip service

Our desire for the perfect lips has built a highly successful lip cosmetics market. Behind any Russian Red or Berry Pink lip is a lady who knows the importance of a pair of beautiful, full lips. For those who deem their lips too thin and is turning to lip filler for help, Dr Tan reminds them not to obssess about the amount of filler used but to aim for a natural look.

“The ratio of our upper lip to the lower lip and the overall shape of the lip is more important than the actual volume enhancement. There should be a nice cupid’s bow over the upper lip and enhancement of the natural bulges of the lower lip on either side of the midline. The lip and skin junction should be well defined and the ratio of the upper to lower lip should be slightly less than one is to two. We aim to define those areas mentioned with as little filler as possible for best natural-looking lips,” he explains.

Beauty Red Carpet Dream: Browsing for Compliments

You might be wondering, “Hey! If something looks good on a celebrity then it should work for me right?” Well, not all the time. Facial beauty trends are like clothes; not everyone looks good in the latest trend. Take eyebrows, for example. “Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and is tempered by current trends. Generally the fuller and straighter eyebrows give a more masculine look while a higher arched thinner eyebrow renders a more feminine look. Slimmer young women may consider having straighter brows but bear in mind that it’s not for everyone,” says Dr. Tan. Even beauty magazines like Her World too, cautions that brows like the popular K-Brows are not suitable for everyone.

At the end of the day, it’s all about propotion. Inspired by what you just read on social media, you may want to rush out to achieve the latest beauty trend. But changes, no matter how subtle, can have a huge impact on how you look. Be sure to go to the right doctor who can deliver a positive and beautiful impact.
