Sculptra® or Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler: Which One And Where?

Most aesthetic doctors carry many brands of dermal filler, which are made of various kinds of materials developed for injection into the skin, such as hyaluronic acid, Sculptra®, and Radiesse®. Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most commonly used as they have a natural compound found in our skin, making it safe for most people.

Nonetheless, there are times where patients and doctors opt for Sculptra®, a brand that is gaining mindshare in the market. So the question that many people are now asking is: How do I know which is suitable for me?

“Sculptra® is for long lasting volumisation and it is for people who like the concept of having the body generate collagen for volumisation,” explains Dr. Terence Tan, Director of Halley Medical Aesthetics (Halley).

People who want results very fast and who need very precise volumisation would opt for hyaluronic acid filler. But both are natural in that hyaluronic acid is found in skin while Sculptra® generates collagen to volumise.”

However, each has its own advantage and which is why Sculptra is used for large areas of volumising like the cheeks or the temple. Hyaluronic acid filler, on the other hand, is for precise lifting in areas like the tear trough, nose, chin, and even the forehead.

“But remember, be sure to tell your doctor all your concerns and needs before you start. An experienced aesthetic doctor will then recommend the best type of product to achieve the results you want,” emphasizes Dr. Tan.
