The Science Behind The Six-Pack Abs

A set of six-pack abs is always enviable. Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, a ripped washboard ab seems to indicate that the owner is in optimum health. However, most people have vague ideas of how to achieve the six-pack abs.

So what’s the science, if any, behind the six-pack abs? Let’s find out.

How many crunches does it take?

So just how many crunches does it take before your abs get ripped? Back in 2002, scientists from the University of Virginia found out that it requires an estimate of 250,000 crunches to burn a pound of fat!

Before you spend hours on your crunches, take note that just working on your stomach alone won’t do much to building washboard abs.

Muscle is a fat burner, so by working out all your body parts, you are increasing its fat burning efficacy. Work on core strengthening exercises as they help you to lift heavier weights and aid in building muscles in the process.

Abs are made in the kitchen

Just because you are working hard does not mean you should not be eating smart! Proteins are good fat burners and they help build lean muscles. Load up on lean protein in particular, as it has the highest thermogenic effect of all macronutrients such as protein, fat, and carbs. The thermogenic effect of food is the amount of energy required to digest and process the food we eat.

In addition to proteins, also include:

  • Carbohydrates – Moderate amount of carbohydrates and serving of vegetables with each meal ensures that you get the minerals, vitamins, fibre, and anti-oxidants your body needs to stay and look healthy.
  • Healthy fats – Raw nuts, fish oils, and olive oils are just some healthy fats that should be a part of youra diet.

CoolSculpting® –  fat reduction treatment

Treatments such as liposuction are commonly used to rid excess fat, but many cringe at the idea of going under the knife. CoolSculpting, on the other hand, is a non-surgical, no downtime fat reduction treatment that canhelp you achieve your six-pack dream; especially if you have been doing everything right but with nothing to show.

Bear in mind that procedures alone are not enough. A encompassing diet and healthy lifestyle are still important.

When you think about it, success with six-pack abs is not really about science than it is about education.

Granted the information, tips, and advice available out there can be overwhelming and confusing so it is wise to seek knowledge from people who are qualified. Stay committed to your #mybodymygoal six-pack dreams!
