Moisturiser: Do You Need One Formulated For The Neck?

Should we use a moisturiser designed for the neck or can we just slather on whatever we use for our face?

The skin on our neck is thin, which explains why signs of aging are more pronounced there. So does that mean we would need a separate moisturiser formulated just for the neck to address the problem?

Moisturiser: The Difference Between the Skin on our Face and the Neck

Firstly, let’s look at why the neck is more susceptible to aging than our face. The skin on our neck produces much-less sebum compared to facial skin, which means they lack sufficient moisture and this leads to the formation of wrinkles. Neck muscles also lose its elasticity faster as they are not attached to the bone structure. Blood circulates slower on the neck as well, which affects collagen production. What’s more, oxygenated blood is important in skin health.

To compound matters further, many of us forget to take care of our neck. Applying moisturiser, as and when we remember or when we feel like it, won’t do our skin any good. It should be a routine and not an afterthought. So once we’ve made a commitment to care for our neck, the question is whether we should invest in skincare designed specifically for the neck or can we just slather on whatever we’re using on our face.

The crux of the matter, however, is not about which is better. The decision depends on your budget and personal preference because both will work so long as the cream includes ingredients that are proven to firm your skin. For instance, vitamin C and E lift and revitalise the skin while ceramide and peptides help tone the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

There is certainly no lack of choice in the market. Skincare counters are filled with a myriad of products like Nectifirm, which makes it easy for those who are out looking for a dedicated moisturiser. And there is, for sure, plenty of facial products with firming ingredients that will appeal to those who want the convenience of having just one moisturiser that addresses two areas. Whichever suits your fancy, buy it; just remember to use it daily.
