Hair Removal Options: Should Women Shave Their Faces?

Facial hair removal with intense pulsed light (IPL), laser, waxing, dermaplaning and shaving. To what extent would you go for a baby soft facial complexion?

Huda Kattan, a famous Youtuber, has been shaving her face to create the perfect base for a flawless makeup application. She believes that shaving with your face wet will cause the hair to grow much thicker, which in her own words is a “no-no.” She even created a Youtube video on how to properly shave your fuzz by applying light razor pressure with gentle strokes.

It was reported that even the beauty icons, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, took to shaving. Shaving one’s face is also believed to help in exfoliating skin while getting rid of hair.

However there are also other believers from other school of thoughts.

Laser hair removal, IPL hair removal, waxing, dermaplaning, and shaving

There are beliefs about how hair will grow thicker and darker if you shave or that waxing sags your skin because of the tugging and pulling action. Then there is dermaplaning, a treatment where a scalpel is used across your face to remove strands of hair from your skin. Come to think of it, having a scalpel scrape your skin is simply scary by itself!

What about other options that don’t involve sharp objects or shavers?

IPL hair removal

IPL uses broad spectrum light source technology to remove and minimise the growth of unwanted hair. Light is converted into heat energy which targets the shafts and root of hair. Intense heat destroys hair-producing papilla, which is a large structure located at the base of hair follicles.

IPL is a fuss-free and gentle treatment that destroys active follicles and effectively limits hair regrowth.

Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal uses the Long Pulsed Nd:Yag Laser to remove unwanted hair by using pulses of laser light to destroy the individual hair follicle. Majority of the hairs are therefore taken care of permanently while regrowth is finer and lighter than previously.

There are many ways to achieve baby smooth complexion. Whatever options you go for, choose the one that you’re comfortable with and more importantly, seek qualified consultation to better understand your skin first.
