So Long Turtlenecks!

Turtlenecks no more! Want to have a long, smooth, and slender jawline and neck worthy of Egyptian royalty like Queen Nefertiti? Botox is the answer.

Mention Nefertiti and the image that comes to mind is the bust of the Egyptian queen with her smooth, long, and slender neck. It comes as no surprise then that Nefertiti, whose name means “the beautiful one has come”, is the namesake for a non-invasive neck lift technique using botulinum neuromodulators like Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®.

The “Nefertiti lift” treats sagging and wrinkling of the lower face and more importantly the neck, which is a dead-giveaway of a person’s real age. The Nefertiti lower face and neck lift using botulinum neuromodulators is an advanced usage of Botox and other similar products. It leverages on the fact that Botox is a relaxer, relaxing the muscles that pull the face down so that the muscles that lift can do their job unopposed.

“The aged appearance of the neck is contributed mainly by loosening of the neck skin due to a process called photoaging. There is also weakening of a thin sheet of muscle called the platysma, a muscle located just below the skin of the neck,” says Dr. Terence Tan, Director, Halley Medical Aesthetics . This process creates a “turkey neck” appearance as one ages, he adds. That is why the platysma muscle is one of the muscles treated during a Nefertiti lift, where multiple injections of botulinum neuromodulators are given along the lower jaw line as well as down the side of the neck along the platysma muscle. This improves the definition of the jaw line and rebalances the underlying muscles, smoothening the bands and folds on the neck.

Dr. Tan says that there are many advanced uses for tried and tested therapies like botulinum neuromodulators, and his goal is to leverage the latest techniques to help patients achieve their beauty objectives.

For instance, the Nefertiti lower face and neck lift can be paired with Ultherapy to the same areas for a longer, lasting effect.

And remember, although Nefertiti is a worshipper of the sun god, the sun is your biggest enemy when it comes to photoaging. So remember your sunblock, hat, and moisturizer before stepping out of your door!
