Forget Trends. Find The Right Doctor And Therapy.

Don’t jump too quickly on the beauty gadget trend bandwagon only to fall off because of less than desirable results. The poor man always pays twice. It’s better to invest in the right medical treatment than to pay multiple times for consumer tools that do not work.

The Japanese are known for their inventions although some gadgets are for novelty use rather than for practical purposes. When it comes to the beauty industry, these tools can at times leave one stumped with not much left to the imagination but they must be effective as people are buying them.

We stumbled upon some of these creative-looking inventions.

The Eye Slack Haruka is supposed to reduce the appearance of sagging skin around the eyes. It’s battery powered and utilizes heat energy, of which there are 2 settings you can choose from, to stimulate and improve skin’s condition. If double eyelids are what you desire then the Eyelid Trainer could just be the solution. It looks like a typical pair of spectacles that has been creatively modified and designed to exercise the eye muscles and encourage the formation of double eyelids.

Another product that uses heat to deliver results is the Neck Wrinkle Iron. As the name implies, it’s meant to eliminate wrinkles on the neck and sagging chin by combining heat energy, radio waves and EMS for a triple rejuvenating action. The washable and reusable Wrinkle Up Tape can supposedly help fight the signs of an ageing appearance just by daily application for 15 minutes. It works by stretching the skin on face back to its youthful bounce.

“There are many beauty gadgets out there and some may be based on medical research or scientific theories that are sound. But because they are for the consumer market, they may not be as effective as they may not be able to deliver the pin-point result you can expect from a doctor who will use medical-grade, scientifically-proven methods, tools, and therapies to address the problem with precision,” say Dr Terence Tan, Director with Halley Medical Aesthetics (Halley). Take Ultherapy for instance, he adds. It uses focused ultrasound to penetrate deep into the skin, heating up specifically the SMAS or Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System layer, resulting in the tightening and lifting of the skin.

“Aging is the result of multiple factors. Things like gravity, loss of bone mass, sun exposure, lack of a proper skincare regime are some of the factors that causes our skin to sag,” adds Dr Tan. “As consumers, we all love quick and easy solutions. But like fixing a leaking pipe, sometimes the solution isn’t as easy as wrapping a tape on the leak.”

Beauty products and tools are generally catered to meet demands and trends. But if it sounds too good to be true, things are probably not what it seems. Whatever your aesthetic need, consider consulting a doctor instead as they will be able do a deep dive down to address the problem at its root for lasting results.
