Anti-Ageing Pills: Can You Regain Your Youth By Popping A Pill?

Who doesn’t like the idea of turning back the effect of time by taking anti-aging pills? As with topical creams, serums and any other health supplements, the efficacy stems from the ingredients used. Anti-ageing pills contain ingredients that are purported to boost collagen production, which is vital in helping skin retain its youthful appearance. Some also contain complex amino acids and vitamins that are regarded as building blocks to a healthy skin and complexion.

Anti-ageing pills: But do they really work?

For people living in developed countries, the ability to access safe and nutritious food to maintain a healthy lifestyle means that our body probably has most of the nutrients we need. Any nutrients that the body lack can be fulfilled with food supplements and vitamins.

But the effects of ageing cannot be addressed with supplements alone. What this means is that whether you are a disciplined consumer of health supplements or you pooh-pooh the idea of popping a pill to solve ageing woes, you must take a holistic approach to your skin care.

What’s more, anti-oxidant supplements marketed for anti-ageing purposes may not contain all compounds that are found in, say an orange. That’s because the fruits and vegetables that we eat are more complex, containing hundreds, if not thousands of substances. What makes them work is perhaps a combination of substances, rather than just one. So extracting just one type of anti-oxidant and putting it in a pill does not guarantee its efficacy.

Ultimately, we must remain objective and do our research before embarking on anything new. Our beauty journey to a more youthful mien should also be a balanced one that combines a good diet—including supplements if that is what your research points you to, a good skin care regime, and therapies backed with medical proof.
