A Romantic Guide To Dining Without Pigging Out

We often say that the way to a woman’s (or man’s) heart is through her stomach. And you know what? This has been scientifically proven  to be true! According to researchers from Drexel University in Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania in the US, brain scans carried out while women viewed a variety of images showed that the women were “significantly more responsive to romantic stimuli after a meal than prior to it”.

Research by Purdue University also found that ordering a dessert on a date could increase your chances of romance. This is because tasting something sweet made study participants more interested in a potential partner, researchers revealed.

Food fulfils a basic human need, and Valentine’s Day is a special occasion that calls for a celebration – over food. It is easy to overeat on such circumstance but if you remember our tips, you’d be able to end your dinner on a happier – and possibly a sexier – mood without feeling sick, bloated, and nauseously full.

Tip #1: Start off on a healthy note

Consider ordering something light such as a salad or soup before an entrée. This will help to fill you up before you tuck in too much later.

 

Tip #2: Exercise portion control by sharing

Food portion sizes in restaurants and cafes are more often than not, larger than normal. In fact, sometimes one serving is enough for two. So why not share the entrée with your significant other? It helps to save the calories for desserts. At the end of the day, remember that moderation is key.

 

Tip #3: Don’t be afraid to make special, healthier requests

Ask your waiter if the chef can put the sauces and dressings on the side or can they substitute fries for veggies or mashed potato instead. Don’t feel bad or silly making other special requests like asking for dishes prepared with less salt, butter or oil.

 

Tip #4: Cooking is love made visible

Food cooked with love is extra tasty so why not cook dinner for your significant other at home instead? Not only is dining in good for the wallet, calories, and health, you get to avoid the crowd and you can also create your own romantic setting too. And whoever said cooking needs to be hard work? Just a well-cooked plate of spaghetti carbonara or a well-seared steak because it is your sweetheart’s favourite dish is better than a heavy three, five or 10-course dinner in a fancy restaurant.

When you cook at home, you can prepare it in healthier ways too. Use lean cuts of meat and less oil as they help to cut down on saturated fats, trans fats, salt, and added sugars without compromising on the taste. Then complete the evening with a movie of her choice on Netflix.
